JASHORE, Nov 19, 2025 (BSS) - Thirty Bangladeshi teenagers, who had fallen victim to human trafficking at different times returned to the country today through the Benapole Checkpost.

Indian Immigration Police at Petrapole in West Bengal handed them over to Bangladeshi Immigration Police in the evening. After completion of all legal procedures, the returnees were released to their families the same day.

The repatriation effort was facilitated by several non-governmental organizations, including Rights Jashore, Justice and Care, and the Bangladesh National Women Lawyers' Association (BNWLA).

Taufiq Zaman, Programme Officer at Rights Jashore, said the teenagers were trafficked into India through illegal channels after being deceived by brokers. They were later detained by Indian police and sent to different prisons following court orders. NGOs in West Bengal subsequently rescued them and placed them in safe shelters.

"The repatriation became possible through the joint efforts of these organizations and with travel permits issued by the authorities of both countries," he said.

He further mentioned that the human rights organizations are prepared to provide full legal assistance to the returnees should they wish to pursue legal action against the trafficking brokers.

S. M. Shakhawat Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police, said the teenagers were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after verification of documents and other required formalities.
