DHAKA, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) – Asia Centre, in collaboration with Google and Legalized Education Bangladesh, today conducted a crucial Training of Trainers (ToT) session in the city aimed at combating the rising dangers of cyber threats.
The intensive two-hour workshop, held at the International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB), is part of a broader initiative to empower local trainers to deliver Digital Security Training (DST) throughout the country, said a press release.
The overall Digital Security Training (DST) programmme is a comprehensive initiative designed to boost the digital literacy and cyber security resilience of groups in Bangladesh and across the Asia-Pacific region deemed high-risk and digitally vulnerable.
This training is focused on providing practical skills and awareness necessary for individuals to safeguard themselves from an increasing array of online threats, including disinformation, ransomware, identity theft, and scams.
The ToT session was designed as an intensive workshop to train local experts who will ultimately be certified as Master Trainers. These certified individuals will play a critical role in spreading digital security knowledge within their respective communities, ensuring that vulnerable groups are equipped to navigate the digital environment securely.
Participants in the ToT session included a diverse mix of local trainers. High-risk users, such as academics, human rights defenders, journalists, micro-influencers, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), attended due to the cyberattack risks associated with their work. The group also involved Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and faith-based organizations vulnerable to cyber threats, alongside various digitally vulnerable groups.
These vulnerable groups include elderly individuals, women, low-income individuals, people with disabilities, youth networks, and the immediate family and friends of high-risk users who need training to support vulnerable persons.
The workshop curriculum covered four key areas – understanding digital security threats, practical digital safety tools, effective training techniques and cyber hygiene practices.
This initiative is driven by the collaborative efforts of Asia Centre, Google, and Legalized Education Bangladesh. Legalized Education Bangladesh, serving as the local partner, is essential for organizing and mobilizing communities, guaranteeing that the ToT session and subsequent DST workshops effectively reach a wide population across Bangladesh.
The organization’s extensive experience in community outreach and digital education, particularly within the educational and social justice sectors, positions them as a key player in addressing the digital needs of Bangladesh's most vulnerable communities. Asia Centre is recognized as a non-profit civil society research institute dedicated to advancing digital rights, cybersecurity, and socio-economic development across the Asia-Pacific region.
The broader DST program spans 12 countries across East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. By focusing on training local Master Trainers, the program seeks to establish a sustainable impact, raising awareness about cyber hygiene and empowering communities to defend themselves against digital threats. Following the initial training sessions, Asia Centre and Google plan to provide ongoing resources, tools, and support to ensure certified trainers can continue their vital educational work.
Participants who successfully complete the session will be awarded a Master Trainer Certificate, formally authorizing them to conduct Digital Security Training sessions. These certified trainers are crucial for spreading essential knowledge and building digital resilience nationwide.
