JHENAIDAH, Nov 7, 2025 (BSS) - Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) General Secretary Md Rashed Khan today said the nation has begun its journey on the "election train" as preparations are underway for the upcoming national election, scheduled for February 2026.
Addressing an election rally in Sadar Upazila here in the district, Rashed said that activists of anti-fascist political parties including BNP, Jamaat, Gono Odhikar Parishad and the Islamic Movement had long endured imprisonment and continued their movement to restore democracy.
"Regardless of which party wins the next election, we are working to form a national government," he said, adding that BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman has been in regular discussions with them about the formation of such a government.
Emphasizing the importance of unity, Rashed said, "There is no alternative to the solidarity of all democratic and anti-fascist forces. Over the past sixteen years, we have struggled together to restore democracy."
Regarding the upcoming election in the Jhenaidah-2 constituency, he said, "I wish every candidate the best. Let each party conduct its political activities peacefully. No one should arrange counter-programmes that could lead to conflict."
Rashed further said the BNP has adopted a policy aimed at restoring democracy and, as part of that strategy, has refrained from nominating party candidates in several constituencies including Jhenaidah-2.
"Although BNP has not yet finalized its decision for this constituency, discussions with the party's high command are ongoing," he added.
District Gono Odhikar Parishad President Lecturer Sakhawat Hossain, General Secretary Zahid Iqbal Rajan, Professional Rights Council President Russell Ahmed, Student Rights Council President Rihan Hossain Raihan and General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun were present at the rally.
