DoE nationwide drive against polluting buses

DHAKA, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - Department of Environment (DoE) has carried out a series of mobile court across the country to curb the use of hydraulic horns, control noise pollution, and prevent the stockpiling and sale of banned polythene.

DoE’s Monitoring and Enforcement Wing and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) jointly conducted the drive in Dhaka’s Rampura area.

Executive Magistrate Ashiq Ahmed led the drive.

The mobile court took action against six vehicles which were fined Tk 16,000 for using hydraulic horns and creating excessive noise, while eight horns were confiscated. The BRTA also filed 11 cases and dumped two buses during the operation.

In Rajbari, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Hafizur Rahman seized two hydraulic horns and imposed fines of Taka 1,000 near Aladipur Jamai Pagoler Mazar Gate area.
 
In Meherpur, another drive headed by Executive Magistrate Khadija Akter, resulted in four cases being filed, Tk 2,000 in fines collected, and eight prohibited horns destroyed on the spot.

In Jhenaidah’s Harinakundu Upazila, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Eshita Akter conducted an operation against illegal storage and sale of banned polythene. The court filed three cases, imposed Tk 8,000 in fines, and seized 24.5 kilograms of polythene.

Similarly, in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Md. Tarikul Islam fined a vehicle Tk 2,000 and confiscated one horn for violating the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006. 

DoE officials said the nationwide drives will continue to protect the environment, control noise pollution, eliminate banned polythene use, and promote environmental sustainability.
