DSCC starts eviction of 240 illegal bus-counters in Sayedabad

DHAKA, April 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has started a large-scale eviction drive in the Sayedabad inter-district bus terminal area to restore road discipline and ease traffic congestion in the city.

The drive covered a wide stretch from TTPara intersection to Dholairpar where unauthorized and illegal bus counters are being removed.

The drive has begun here today under the leadership of DSCC Executive Magistrate Aminul Islam with the assistance from the law enforcing agencies.

Earlier, on March 10, a coordination meeting was held involving the DSCC, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Dhaka Road Transport Bus Owners Association, Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal Transport Owners Association and the Transport Workers' Committee. The eviction operation commenced in line with the decisions taken at that meeting.

A preliminary survey identified a total of 240 illegal bus counters in the Sayedabad counter zone between TTPara and Dholairpar.

During the operation, the identified illegal structures were demolished and those responsible were strictly warned not to occupy roads or footpaths in future.

In addition to Sayedabad, similar drives were conducted on several key routes in the capital. These include the areas from Moghbazar intersection through Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani to Kakrail Mosque, Matsya Bhaban, Abdul Gani Road and Osmani Memorial Hall as well as from Banglamotor to Hotel InterContinental, Hare Road and the Shikkha Bhaban area.

For a long time, illegal bus counters in Sayedabad had caused severe traffic congestion and significant hardship for the commuters. The DSCC has said that stern measures were taken in the public interest and to restore the order in urban management.

Authorities confirmed that the eviction drive will continue until all illegal counters are completely removed.
