DMP holds security coordination meeting to ensure safe Pahela Boishakh celebrations

DHAKA, April 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today held a high-level coordination meeting to ensure comprehensive security and smooth traffic management across the capital during the upcoming Pahela Boishakh celebrations marking Bengali New Year 1433.

The meeting took place in the morning at the DMP Headquarters conference room, with Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar presiding.

In his speech, the Acting Commissioner emphasized that Pahela Boishakh is one of the most significant cultural festivals for Bengalis, drawing large crowds every year. 

He noted that this year is expected to see even greater public participation, reflecting the growing trust of citizens in law enforcement agencies.

"To ensure the safety of all attendees, we have further strengthened our security arrangements," he said. 

"In coordination with all security forces, including intelligence agencies, we are committed to providing flawless security. Besides, we are implementing a well-planned traffic measures to minimize inconvenience for the public."

He added that the main purpose is to safeguard lives and property while ensuring uninterrupted movement throughout the city during the festivities.

The meeting was attended by representatives from various intelligence agencies, specialized police units, and key government and civic bodies, including the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Department of Health, Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Fire Service and Civil Defence, DPDC, WASA, Public Works Department, Bangla Academy, Dhaka University, the Faculty of Fine Arts of DU, TSC's Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, JASAS, Chhayanaut, Rishi Shilpagosti and Shakyamuni Buddhist Monastery, among others.

At the outset, DMP Joint Police Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a PowerPoint presentation. 

This was followed by an open discussion session where representatives from participating organizations shared their opinions and recommendations.

Among others present were DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam, DIG (Internal Affairs) of Bangladesh Police Special Branch (SB), Dhaka, Mir Ashraf Ali, Additional Police Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Masud Karim, Additional Police Commissioner (Protection and Diplomatic Security) Sana Shaminur Rahman, and Additional Police Commissioner (Estate, Development and ICT) Mohammad Osman Gani, along with senior police officers and stakeholders.

The coordinated efforts aim to ensure that this year's Pahela Boishakh celebrations in the capital are held in a festive, safe, and disciplined environment.
