DHAKA, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said no one has been given green signal for party's nomination to contest upcoming national parliamentary elections.
"None has been given green signal for party's nomination in any constituency. Those who have best performance in various party activities will get nominations as BNP candidates. BNP's nominations are made in its own constitutional way, not through any green signal," he told a press conference at BNP central office here.
BNP is making thorough preparations for the upcoming national elections, Rizvi said, adding that the party will select qualified candidates through constitutional system based on their popularity and acceptability among the people.
He said the party's acting chairman will announce the final list of candidates after the election schedule is declared.
The veteran BNP leader said the Parliamentary Board is responsible for nominating candidates for national parliamentary or any other election and the board's decision is considered final.
"So, I urge party leaders and activists across the country not to be misled by any fictional news published in newspapers until an official announcement is made by the party's central command headed by the acting chairman after the polls schedule is announced," he said.
He called the recent reports in some newspapers and on social media claiming that certain BNP candidates have been given green signal as false propaganda.
Rizvi said, "Some media outlets are wilfully engaged in false propaganda with the malicious intent of creating division and discord within BNP. Recently, some newspapers, media and social media platforms have been publishing fabricated lists of BNP's nominated candidates, along with their names and details to sow confusion, dissatisfaction and unrest among the party's leaders and activists."
Mentioning that party's acting chairman urged all activists to remain united, Rizvi said, "Instead of a green signal, Tarique Rahman is giving specific and appropriate instructions for everyone to work together in each area. He is emphasizing that BNP leaders and activists must remain united."
"We must maintain our iron-clad unity and be involved in every public-oriented activity. Party members should never be engaged in any activities that bother the people. If we do this, the people's verdict will surely be in favor of the paddy sheaf (Dhaner Shis)," Rizvi said.
"The BNP acting chairman is advising leaders and activists to go door-to-door across the country to present the 31-point charter of liberation to the public. He (Tarique Rahman) has also instructed prospective candidates to strengthen their unity and become more people-friendly," he added.
