DHAKA, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a special campaign in the capital to ensure the quick, systematic, and environmentally friendly removal of sacrificial animal waste during the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
As part of the initiative, 140,000 biodegradable bags, 40 tons of bleaching powder, and 1,050 liters of Savlon were handed over to representatives of Hridoye Elephant Road Society for distribution among residents.
DSCC administrator Md. Abdus Salam formally inaugurated the programme today in the Elephant Road area of the capital.
He sought cooperation from city residents for the proper management of sacrificial animal waste.
The administrator urged citizens to use designated biodegradable bags for keeping animal waste and dispose them at the specified locations.
DSCC workers will collect them as quickly as possible, he said.
“Under no circumstances should sacrificial animal waste be thrown into drains or sewers. Doing so may not only pollute the environment but also spread harmful germs and create severe waterlogging during rainfall,” he said.
Salam informed that the main waste removal operation will begin at 12 noon on Eid day as the target has been set to completely remove the first day’s waste within the following eight hours. To achieve this goal, he sought awareness and active cooperation from city residents.
DSCC stated that residents will be able to collect biodegradable bags and bleaching powder free of charge from their respective ward offices and from institutions or PCSPs responsible for household waste collection.
According to concerned officials, citizen awareness and coordinated initiatives by the city corporation can be the most effective way to ensure clean and hygienic urban management of animal waste.
