DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today said if the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman returns to the country, half of the election campaign work will be completed.
He said,“Tarique Rahman will return to the country very soon, and on that day, everything for the election will be established. I'm not saying the election will happen, but if he returns, half of the BNP's election work will be finished. The campaign is the main issue of an election, and on that day, half of the BNP's campaign will be done across the country."
He also mentioned that Tarique Rahman's return would be an unforgettable, historic event.
Salahuddin made the remarks while speaking at a discussion organized by the Nationalist Income Tax Lawyers' Forum at the Institute of Diploma Engineers in the city.
The BNP leader also emphasized the need to establish a political government through an election, specifically a parliamentary government that would fulfill the nation's aspirations.
He said, "The 2026 election could take place a week before or even earlier than Ramadan in February.”
He said the country is now in an electoral atmosphere, and a nationwide election mood has been created.
Regarding the National Consensus Commission's meetings and reaching consensus on various issues, the senior BNP leader said, “If the commission makes decisions without discussing major issues with political parties, it will create obstacles in the next election. The issues on which a consensus is reached will be implemented through parliament.”
