TANGAIL, May 30, 2026 (BSS)-Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam has said that the electricity crisis at Madhupur Upazila Health Complex will be solved through the installation of solar panels.

During a visit to the health complex on Friday afternoon, the minister announced that until the solar panels are installed, he would personally bear the generator expenses to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for the patients.

The minister emphasized that no irregularities in hospital operations would be tolerated and pledged to strengthen healthcare services for the public. He also stated that the Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex would be developed into one of the country’s model hospitals.

Speaking at the event, Fakir Mahbub said the government is working tirelessly to bring quality healthcare services to people’s doorsteps. He assured that all necessary support would be provided to transform the Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex into a modern and people-friendly healthcare institution.

During the visit, the minister interacted with admitted patients, inquired about their treatment and spent time with pediatric patients. He later attended a view exchange meeting at the seminar room of the hospital’s new building.

Hospital authorities informed the minister that, in addition to residents of Madhupur, Dhanbari and Gopalpur, patients from Muktagacha, Sarishabari and Ghatail regularly take treatment at the facility. As a result, the hospital faces a significant daily patient load.

Officials further noted that although the hospital was upgraded from 50 to 100 beds in 2020, the required revenue-funded staffing positions have yet to be created. Limited budget allocations for medical supplies, electricity bills, municipal taxes, land development taxes and other operational expenses have forced the institution to operate a 100-bed facility with inadequate manpower. Consequently, doctors, nurses and staff are working under considerable pressure.

Hospital authorities submitted several demands to ensure full operation of the 100-bed facility including the construction of a new storage building, boundary wall, solar power system, submersible pump and water supply line, sewage and waste management facilities, dormitories for physicians and residential quarters for employees. They also stressed the need for additional medical equipment and furniture.

The minister listened attentively to the concerns raised by hospital officials and assured them that initiatives would be taken to address these issues.

It was noted that although the Madhupur Upazila Health Complex has officially been upgraded to a 100-bed hospital, a lack of sufficient manpower and budget allocations has prevented it from providing full-scale services.

Among others, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mirza Md. Jubayer Hossain, BNP National Executive Committee Member Advocate Shamsuzzaman Suruj, Madhupur Upazila BNP President Zakir Hossain Sarkar, General Secretary Nasir Uddin, BNP leader Zainal Abedin Khan Babul, M Ratan Haidar and Resident Medical Officer Dr. Sajib Kanti Pal were present at that time.
