DHAKA, Sept 07, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of prominent writer, researcher and leftist intellectual Badruddin Umar.
The leaders expressed their shock in a message of condolence signed by the organization’s joint member secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat.
In the message, they said, “The NCP expresses deep sorrow over the death of renowned politician, intellectual, social thinker and Jatiya Mukti Council President Badruddin Umar.”
They said that during the regime of killer Hasina, Badruddin Umar was a thinker and political force on the side of the masses, unlike the mainstream intellectuals and civil society who supported the narrative of fascism in Bangladesh.
Before the dummy elections of January 2024, he spoke about expelling the Awami League in a press conference, the release said, adding when the July Uprising took place, he was able to identify this mass movement as a 'mass uprising' and acknowledged its magnitude compared to previous coups.
They said he (Badruddin Umar) used to present objective and impersonal history in his writings as a researcher and writer. He was always vocal against the Mujibist reading of the history of the liberation struggle of the people of Bangladesh, they added.
The NCP leaders said “Badruddin Umar's contribution to writing an objective history of all important political, social and cultural chapters of this country will ever be remembered. With his death, the country and the nation lost a talented son.”
They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
