DHAKA, June 19, 2025 (BSS) - Police early today arrested three illegal drug peddlers for their suspected connection with a shooting that injured three Detective Branch (DB) personnel in the capital's Fakirapool area.
Around 9500 pieces of Yaba tablets and a private car used in the drug peddling were seized from their possessions.
Deputy Commissioner of DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter to BSS.
He said three members of DB suffered bullet injuries as suspected drug traffickers fired gunshots at them while they were in an anti-drug raid in the Central Police Hoapital in Fakirapool early today.
In the firing, Assistant Commissioner Soeb sustained bullet wounds in his hand, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Atik Hasan in his abdomen and Constable Sujan in his leg, he said.
AC Soeb took first aid while the remaining two others were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
The drug traffickers fired gunshots from inside a private car at the DB personnel as they attempted to intercept a private car, he said.
Three suspects were arrested at the scene, while several others managed to flee under the cover of gunfire.
The arrested individuals are currently in DB custody. A case was filed in connection.
