CHATTOGRAM, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS)- BNP’s central assistant organizing secretary Barrister Mir Md Helal Uddin today said entire nation got inspired and courageously took part in the Liberation War following proclamation of Independence on March 27, 1971 made by the then Major Ziaur Rahman from Kalurghat Transmission Center.
Barrister Helal made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at a huge rally organized by BNP city unit on the occasion of celebrating December 16 Victory Day-2025 at Old Railway Station premises in the city.
Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Dr Shahadat Hossin spoke at the rally as special guest. BNP city unit member secretary Nazimur Rahman was in the chair while joint convenor Manjurul Alam was the moderator.
After the rally, a colorful Victory Day procession with the participation of hundreds of party workers and supporters was brought out in the city which ended at Laldighi area after passing different city streets.
Mir Helal, also BNP nominated candidate for Chattogram-5 (Hathazari) parliamentary constituency said there was no alternative to strengthening and institutionalizing the democracy if we want to reach the real fruits of Independence to the doorsteps of the people.
“We have to promote the culture of mutual tolerance and respect as well as believe in unity in all spheres of life- from individual to state level for greater interest of national progress and prosperity,” he said.
CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said the dreams of people to have a democratic and exploitation-free human society have not yet been materialized after 54 years of Independence.
The conspirators from home and abroad are still active to weaken the country’s Independence and sovereignty.
“Though Shaheed President Zaiur Rahman at first introduced multi-party democracy in the country, it’s spirit was destroyed time and again at the hands of anti-democratic conspirators,” he said.
He laid emphasized on building greater national unity for the sake of restoration of sustainable democracy in the country.
Former city unit general secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, BNP nominee in the Chattogram-9 parliamentary constituency Abu Sufian, city unit BNP joint convenor Advocate Abdus Satter, Kazi Belal Uddin, BNP leaders Neaz Md Khan, Harun Zaman, Shah Alam, R U Chowdhury Shaheen, Shawkat Azam Khawaza, Yasin Chowdhury Liton, Ahmedul Alam Chowdhury Russel and Shihab Uddin Mobin among others addressed the rally.
