DHAKA, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today said the government is extending all necessary cooperation to ensure treatment for ailing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
“You are aware that the national leader, three-time former Prime Minister, one of the foremost figures of democratic politics of the country and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is currently hospitalized due to illness. This is a matter of concern for all of us,” he said while addressing the nation this evening on the occasion of the Victory Day 2025.
The Chief Adviser said the interim government has been giving the issue the highest importance from the very beginning.
Describing Begum Khaleda Zia as “an inseparable part of an important chapter in Bangladesh’s history,” Professor Yunus highlighted her unwavering commitment to Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty and democracy, her contributions to national development, and the respectful sentiments of the people toward her.
“Considering all these factors, the government has already declared her a Very Very Important Person (VVIP) of the state,” he said.
Noting that the government is extending all necessary cooperation to ensure her treatment, while fully respecting the wishes of her family, the Chief Adviser said, alongside treatment at home, all options, including arrangements for advanced treatment abroad if needed, are under consideration.
