BAGERHAT, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard West Zone opened two of its warships to the public at the Coast Guard Jetty on the banks of the Pashur River in Mongla on the occasion of the Great Victory Day.

Lieutenant Commander Md. Mansurun Mahdeen, Executive Officer of BCGS Kamruzzaman, shared the information in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.

He said December 16 marks the Great Victory Day, when Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign nation in 1971 after a nine-month-long bloody Liberation War. The day is observed every year with due dignity, solemnity and enthusiasm.

As part of the Victory Day celebrations, two Coast Guard vessels under the West Zone -- BCGS Kamruzzaman and BCGS Touhid -- were kept open to visitors from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. During this time, people from various walks of life visited the ships and gained first-hand knowledge about the capabilities, modernisation and role of the Bangladesh Coast Guard in ensuring maritime security.

Lieutenant Commander Mahdeen said Coast Guard personnel on board assisted visitors during the inspection and provided detailed information about the ships' capacities and operational activities.

He also reaffirmed that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will remain steadfast in its commitment to serving the country and its people in the future.
