DHAKA, May 27, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz today said the DNCC will work with youths to free capital’s canals and rivers from illegal occupation.
He said this while addressing the inaugural function of Bangladesh Youth Coalition in city’s Agargaon.
The administrator said that after taking charge, Dhaka North City Corporation has already cleaned 108 kilometers of canals and several voluntary organizations have been given responsibility for maintaining greenery and cleanliness on both the sides of the canals.
He said that Dhaka city will get greenery as planned afforestation will be carried out with the help of youths in Uttara Diabari and Purbachal areas. The canals and lakes of Purbachal will be developed aesthetically, he added.
In addition, he said an urban reserve forest will be developed in the vacant land near Dhaka airport.
Mohammad Azaz said, “Our youth must be aware against extortion. Extortion in this city must be stopped through the efforts of the youths. The city must be made safer and more livable.”
Director of the Department of Youth Development Md. A. Hamid Khan, First Secretary of the Swedish Embassy in Bangladesh Nayaka Martinez Backstrom, and members of one hundred voluntary organizations were present at the event.
