KHULNA, May 22, 2025 (BSS) - BNP’s National Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has said that the conspiracy over the past 17 years was one-sided, but now, after Sheikh Hasina’s fall, there are obstacles at every step of the political journey, and a different kind of conspiracy is underway.
He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at an event of renewing BNP membership and recruiting new members, held this afternoon at the banquet hall of Khulna Press Club.
Mentioning the leaders of the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP), he said, “Use your conscience to understand reality. Try to hear what’s on the people’s minds.”
“If the government does not fulfill our demands, just as some have stood in restricted areas for three days to press home their demands, we too will stand with millions. And if we stand with such numbers, where will you go?” Gayeshwar added.
BNP’s acting organizing secretary for Khulna Division Anindya Islam Amit Anindya Islam Amit presided over the event.
Central and Khulna unit BNP leaders from 10 districts participated in the event.
Gayeshwar also stated that amendments to the constitution are not possible without an elected parliament.
He emphasized that anti-people clauses in the constitution must be amended through an elected body. People of the country want democracy, they want the freedom to speak and only through a democratic process reforms can be achieved, he said, adding that the parliament formed through elections will be responsible for implementing reform proposals.
“Some are talking about reforms, others are talking about holding local elections before the national elections. We will have to go through a tough time before the next elections,” he added.
Khulna City Unit BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona inaugurated the programme while General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin and five young members filled out membership forms as a symbolic gesture for the start of the campaign in the Khulna Division.
