Eight more countries greet Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as PM

 DHAKA, Jan 25, 2024 (BSS) - Eight more countries have extended congratulations and felicitations in recent messages to Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the Bangladesh prime minister.

The countries are Poland, Greece, Slovenia, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Bahrain, Kazakhstan and Nicaragua.

In his message, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he is pleased to note the traditionally friendly relations between Poland and Bangladesh.

He hoped to cooperate with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the further development of bilateral relations between the two countries, in particular in the economic area and people-to-people contacts.

"I also count on successful cooperation of our countries at the United Nations forum to defend international law and standards, which guarantee stability and peaceful co-existence of all countries," reads his message.

Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, in his message, extended his heartfelt congratulations on behalf of his government and in his own name to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her reappointment as the prime minister of Bangladesh.

He also wished the premier's every success in the discharge of this responsible duty.

Sierra Leone's President Dr Julius Maada Bio said the absolute majority secured by the Awami League in the elections is indeed a testament to Sheikh Hasina strong, dynamic and committed leadership as prime minister over the years.

"Dear Prime Minister, I have no doubt in my mind that your victory will continue to usher in prosperity for the people of Bangladesh," reads his letter.

Maada Bio said within the framework of South-South Cooperation, it is his hope that the relationship between the two countries will be strengthened in the years ahead.

Bahrain's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa wished Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh further progress and prosperity.

"I look forward to develop further ties and cooperation between our two countries," he said.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his message said: "Taking into account that Greece and Bangladesh enjoy more than 50 years of diplomatic relations, I avail myself of this opportunity to express my intention to further strengthen the ties between our two countries."

Acting President of Zimbabwe General (retd) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga said Sheikh Hasina's victory is clear testimony of the trust and confidence that the people of Bangladesh reposed in her.

He wished to assure Sheikh Hasina of his commitment to consolidate the existing bilateral relations between the two countries and peoples.

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his letter said: "Your (Sheikh Hasina's) victory in the elections is undoubtedly a testimony to the broad support of your countrymen for you and the party you lead in your differentiated policies to bring political and economic stability to Bangladesh, improve the welfare of the citizens and enhance its international standing."

He hoped the friendship between Kazakhstan and Bangladesh will continue to strengthen for the prosperity of the peoples.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Vice-President Rosario Murillo in a joint letter also conveyed their sincere and warm congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her victory.

They wished success for her and her government in this new period.
