JAMALPUR, Sept 4, 2026 (BSS) - Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rasiduzzaman Millat today said ousted Awami League government set up power plants in the name of increasing electricity generation but failed to make proper plans for their long-term operation.

He also noted that the interim government took no effective steps to address the problem.

"The government didn't repair a machine needed for gas production. As a result, problems emerged in power generation and a deficit developed in the supply chain," he said.

The minister was speaking at a public meeting at the Dewanganj Government High School field today, organised to mark the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Millat said the country needs some time to rebuild and develop anew.

"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, we will achieve success in building the country," he said.

The meeting was chaired by Dewanganj Upazila BNP President Shamol Chanda Paul.

Senior Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Krishak Dal Monir Hossain, Jamalpur Zilla Parishad Administrator Sirazul Haque and Upazila BNP Secretary Abdur Rashid Sada, among others, addressed the meeting.
