 LALMONIRHAT, Sept 4, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu MP has called for increased public involvement against social crimes and collective efforts to build a humane, safe and drug-free society.

 "If we can't develop people as human beings, what is the use of so much development? Small children and adolescents are dying due to drugs. What will we do by constructing so many buildings and structures if the next generation cannot protect them?" he asked. 

He viewed this while speaking as the chief guest at the "Twenty-five crore tree plantation programme in five years', women empowerment, distribution of saplings, sewing machines and sports equipment at Mahendranagar Union Parishad premises of Sadar upazila this afternoon. 
 
The minister said that it is not possible for any single person or organization to eradicate social diseases like drugs, gambling, child marriage, women abuse, dowry system and corruption. 
 
"To prevent these crimes, people from all classes and professions of society, including families, educational institutions, social organizations, public representatives and law enforcement agencies, will have to work together," he said. 
 
To protect these boys and girls and build a drug-free society, everyone will have to work together. 
 
He said that a voluntary social organization named 'Alokita Lalmonirhat' has been formed with the aim of preventing social crimes through public involvement. 

The organization will collect information on social crimes, create awareness and provide necessary information to the law enforcement agencies to help solve the problem. The organization has formed committees at the union and ward levels. 

Based on the activities of these committees, those who will play the most effective role in preventing social crimes will be encouraged. 

The union or ward that will be ahead in preventing social degradation will be given priority in the development activities of that area and will be 
rewarded. 
 
He said, "A zero tolerance policy has been adopted against drugs, gambling, child marriage and violence against women, dowry system and corruption. I want to see which union or ward takes first place in this competition." 
 
If the objectives of the voluntary organization are implemented 100 percent, it is possible to build an enlightened Lalmonirhat. 

Addressing the party leaders and workers, the minister said that no kind of fight, violence or conflict should be involved. 
 
"To maintain peace and harmony in the society, everyone should stay away from anti-social activities and come forward with respect, compassion and love for each other," he said. 
 
At the event, about 50 footballs for sports, 10 sewing machines for women to become self-reliant through income generating activities and 10 bicycles for students were distributed to students of various educational institutions. 
 
Lalmonirhat Zilla Parishad Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mononita Das, District BNP Joint General Secretary ABM Faruk Siddique, Municipal BNP President Afzal Hossain, Mahendranagar Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Majid Mandal and local BNP leaders were present at the event.
