Scientific seminar held at Pharmacy Department in RU

RAJSHAHI, Sept 3, 2026 (BSS) - A scientific seminar titled 'Bridging Ethnopharmacology and Modern Drug Development: From Traditional Knowledge to Natural Product-Based Drug Discovery' was held today at the University of Rajshahi (RU).
 
The seminar was organized by the Department of Pharmacy under the initiative of the Faculty of Science.
 
The seminar was held at the Faculty of Engineering Gallery. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamunur Rashid was present as the chief guest.
 
Emeritus Professor Mohammad Abdur Rashid of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Dhaka was present as the keynote speaker and Professor Golam Sadik was present as the special guest.
 
Professor Shahnaz Parvin, Chairperson of the department, presided over the seminar.
 
In his speech, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamunur Rashid expressed optimism that this seminar will play an important role in more effectively linking natural resource-based research with modern drug development.
 
The seminar featured important discussions on bridging traditional medical knowledge and modern drug discovery and the potential for developing new natural product-based drugs through modern technology.
The issue of identifying effective bioactive compounds from medicinal plants and natural sources was also discussed.

Discussions and exchange of views were held with the participation of teachers, researchers and students.
 
Teachers, researchers and students from the Department of Pharmacy and other related departments were present at the seminar.
 
Sohanur Rahman, a student of the thesis group of the Department of Pharmacy, moderated the seminar.
