DHAKA, Sep 3, 2026 (BSS)- Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said Bangladesh is at high risk of earthquakes and preparations must be made before an earthquake strikes so that rescue operations can be conducted swiftly and affected people can be supported.

To deal with any disaster the ministry is preparing 100,000 volunteers as per the Prime Minister’s directives, he said while addressing the inauguration of a two-day training programme on “Formation of Volunteers for Earthquake Disaster Management” at the Department of Disaster Management in the capital today.

Dulu said Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country and the government has taken various initiatives to mitigate the suffering caused by disasters.

Speaking as a special guest, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M Iqbal Hossain said training makes a person skilled, mature and complete. 

He expressed hope that the trained volunteers would come forward to serve humanity whenever an opportunity arises.

Secretary of the ministry Mohammad Saiful Islam was present as a special guest while Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman was in the chair.
