MYMENSINGH, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today said anyone can criticize the government and has the right to speak against it, but narratives against the state will be dealt firmly.

"People hold the right to talk against the government and no action would be taken even if a narrative is created against the government. But if anyone makes narratives against the country and its people, it will be dealt strictly," he said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on ways to prevent the spread of misinformation on social media at the Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner's conference room tonight.

He said the government is working on amendments to the Cyber Security Act and a high-level committee has been formed for this purpose. 

He reiterated that the law is not being enacted against any political party or individual, nor is it aimed at stopping narratives against the government. 

"Laws are being enacted to make Bangladesh better and to protect women and children," he said.

He also highlighted government steps to promote moral education to prevent cyberbullying. 

Noting the government's initiative to help children flourish, he said, "One playground will be built in every union and one mini stadium in every upazila to create space for the children and to build a healthy generation." 

Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman presided over the meeting and Police Superintendent Mohammad Kamrul Hasan spoke on the occasion.

Acting Deputy Director of Local Government Division Umme Habiba Meera presented the keynote paper at the meeting.
