PM mourns death of Sramik Dal founding leader Mizanur Rahman

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Jatiotabadi Sramik Dal founding Joint Secretary Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury.

"Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury accompanied Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to Chittagong on May 29, 1981, and stayed with him in Room number One along with the then State Minister Syed Muhibul Hasan. After the assassination of President Ziaur Rahman, Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury carefully wrapped the body with a piece of cloth," PM's Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly quoted him as saying while talking to BSS tonight.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, in a condolence message, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, aged 73, died at the capital's Universal Hospital (previously United Hospital) early Wednesday. 

He is survived by his wife, two children and five grandchildren. He was buried at Azimpur Graveyard following a Namaz-e-Janaza at Azad Mosque today.
