President receives credentials from Indian High Commissioner

DHAKA, June 25, 2026 (BSS) – President Mohammed Shahabuddin today received credentials from newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at a ceremony in Bangabhaban here.

Upon his arrival at Bangabhaban in the afternoon, a smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment accorded him a Guard of Honour. Following the credential presentation ceremony, the High Commissioner paid a courtesy call on the President.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the President’s Press Secretary, Md. Sarwar Alam, said the President welcomed the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner and expressed the hope that his tenure would contribute to making Bangladesh–India relations stronger, more fruitful, and more beneficial to the people.

The Head of the State recalled with appreciation the participation of the Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha, Om Birla, in the swearing-in ceremony of the new democratic government formed after securing more than a two-thirds of the seats in the free, fair, and credible national election held in February this year.

The President said Bangladesh attaches special importance on its relations with India as its closest neighbour and an important trade and development partner.

 He said Bangladesh remains committed to maintaining a mutually respectful and forward-looking partnership with India while upholding sovereign equality, national interests and dignity, and the welfare of the people.

In response, the High Commissioner noted that friendly and cordial relations exist between the two sovereign states, which is both natural and expected.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin also emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people connectivity and taking positive initiatives to resolve unresolved issues, including border-related matters.

Regarding border issues, the High Commissioner noted that fruitful discussions had recently taken place between senior officials of BSF and BGB. He underscored the importance of holding such meetings more regularly and frequently at both local and higher levels between border forces and officials of the two countries and expressed hope that border related issues would be resolved promptly.

Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi conveyed greetings from the President and leadership of India to the President of Bangladesh and reaffirmed India’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries. 

The President, in turn, extended his greetings to the President of India through the High Commissioner. 

The High Commissioner sought the continued support and cooperation of the President and the people of Bangladesh during his tenure. 

The President wished him a successful term and assured full cooperation to make relations between the two countries more cordial and consolidated.

Secretaries from the President’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other senior officials concerned were present at the event.
