DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - The government has issued a gazette notification for the Mosque Management Policy-2025 to ensure efficient, transparent and time-befitting management of mosques across the country.

The notification was signed on January 19 by Md. Kamal Uddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, an official release said here today.

According to the notification, a uniform policy will be followed in the management of mosques across the country to improve the administrative discipline, financial transparency and the quality of religious services. The policy introduced the new provisions regarding the formation of the management committees and the appointment of Imams and Muezzins, the release added.

The notification clearly outlined the regulations concerning mosque administration, formation of management committees, appointment, duties, honorariums and disciplinary matters of Imams, Muezzins and Caretakers. Relevant stakeholders believed that this will establish a unified and standard administrative structure for all the mosques in the country.

Sources at the Ministry of Religious Affairs said the policy was finalized by considering contemporary needs and realities, incorporating opinions from the Islamic Foundation, relevant stakeholders and Islamic scholars.

The implementation of this policy is expected to further strengthen accountability and discipline in the mosque management.

The policy specified guidelines for the formation and tenure of the mosque management committees, financial management and ensuring transparency in the receipt and expenditure of donations and grants. It also provided the directions to develop mosques as centers for social and religious activities.

Stakeholders said that once the 'Mosque Management Policy-2025' comes into effect, a coordinated and disciplined system for mosque management will be established nationwide, ensuring professionalism in the administration of religious institutions.
