DHAKA, Jan 14, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting, Environment, Forests and Climate Change, and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has called upon the citizens to dedicate them for the welfare of the nation by setting aside the personal gain.

“Place national interest above personal gain and dedicate themselves to the service of people and nature,’ she said.

She made the remarks while speaking at the “Roots to Legacy: Platinum Jubilee Celebration”, marking the 75th anniversary of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College at its Bailey Road campus in Dhaka, organized jointly by the school authorities and the alumni association.

An alumna of the institution, Rizwana Hasan said she felt honored to attend the programme not as a chief guest, but as a member of the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College family.

She paid tribute to the teachers and educators whose dedication helped building the institution’s legacy of producing distinguished and socially responsible citizens.

Highlighting environmental responsibility, the adviser called for greater awareness about reducing plastic use, stressing the importance of returning to glass containers and using jute or burlap bags instead of plastic.

“Plastic has entered our blood, lungs, and even mother’s milk—human negligence is responsible for this,” she said, calling environmental protection a matter of values.

Rizwana Hasan also emphasized political awareness and civic responsibility, saying that while personal success is celebrated by individuals  and families, societal and national success is celebrated by the state.

“If you want to change the country, you must first change yourself,” she added.

Principal Mazeda Begum described the adviser as a source of inspiration for present and future students due to her humanitarian outlook and social commitment.

Md. Ajmal Haque, President of the Interim Committee of the institution, and Barrister Iffat Gias Arefin, President of the Alumni Association, also addressed the event.

The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony marking the school’s 75 years, followed by a photo session with current and former teachers and students.
