DHAKA, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS)- Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said political parties should give clear roadmap and implementation plan in their election manifestos to protect the environment.

She asked youths to hold the elected government accountable to prevent environmental pollution.

The environment adviser made the remarks while speaking at an event titled 'Road to Green Manifesto: Dialogue with Political Parties' organized by non-profit organization Brigeters at the Department of Environment (DoE) in Agargaon, Dhaka.

Rizwana Hasan said the interim government started the process of resolving environmental problems and the next elected government should take it forward to prevent pollutions.

She said about 13 percent of air pollution comes from brick kilns. In addition, road dust, open construction materials, and waste burning are the main causes of air pollution, she said.

“A policy has been made to stop black smoke from vehicles. Now it needs to be implemented. We have declared Savar as a 'degraded airshed'. We have faced many legal obstacles while conducting a campaign to close brick kilns,” she said.

The adviser said this time Dhaka has been at the peak of air pollution for fewer days compared to the previous year. “In addition, we have passed a project in the ECNEC to increase the capacity of the Eastern Refinery to prevent air pollution.”

She said the Noise Pollution Regulations 2025 have been prepared while separate rules have also been made for the conservation of forests and wild animals.

Addressing the youths, the adviser said, "We should not lose hope, the works should be carried forward systematically."

Moderated by Brighters’ chair Fariha Amir, the programme was also addressed by CEGIS Executive Director Malik Fida A Khan, DNCC Administrator Md Azad, event convener Habibur Rahman, Md.
