SUST Press Club marks 30 years with first-ever reunion

SYLHET, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) - Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Press Club, an organisation of the campus journalists, marked the completion of three decades of its journey with a day-long celebration and its first-ever reunion on Saturday.

The programme brought together former and current campus journalists, creating a festive atmosphere on the university campus.

The celebrations began at 9:00am with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by a colourful rally at the university's Gol Chattar. 

A free discussion session was later held at the mini auditorium.

The discussion meeting was presided over by SUST Press Club President Zubaidul Haque Robin, while General Secretary Nayeem Ahmed Shuvo conducted the session.

SUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A M Sarwaruddin Chowdhury attended the programme as the chief guest.

Vice-Chancellors of Sunamganj University of Science and Technology Professor Dr Md Nizam Uddin, Leading University Professor Dr Mohammad Tajuddin and North East University Professor Dr Mohammad Iqbal were present as special guests.

Among others, SUST Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sajedul Karim, Treasurer Professor Dr Ismail Hossain, and Jashore University of Science and Technology Treasurer Professor Dr Hossain Al Mamun attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, SUST VC Prof Dr A M Sarwaruddin Chowdhury said the SUST Press Club has completed three decades by upholding responsibility, trust and pride. Since its inception, the Press Club journalists have played a significant role in the development of the university by safeguarding students' rights and raising their voices against irregularities through objective reporting, he said.

He also noted that many former members of the Press Club are now working in leading national media outlets and various other professions, maintaining professionalism and journalistic standards.

The day-long reunion also featured reminiscence sessions, cultural programmes and sports events. 

Members of different university cultural organisations performed at the cultural segment.

Former and current members of the SUST Press Club, teachers, administrative officials of the university and invited guests participated in the celebrations.
