DU announces programmes marking Martyred Intellectuals’ Day, Victory Day

DHAKA, Dec 11, 2025 (BSS) –Dhaka University (DU) authorities have undertaken extensive programmes to observe the Martyred Intellectuals’ Day on December 14, and the Great Victory Day on December 16.
 
The programmes were finalized at a meeting held recently at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban with DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan in the chair, a press release said.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Professor Dr Saifuddin Ahmed, Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, along with provosts of different halls, residential teachers and heads of offices attended the meeting.

 Martyred Intellectuals’ Day’s programmes include hoisting black flags atop the Vice-Chancellor’s residence and other important university buildings at 6:20 am on December 14.

A gathering will be held at 6:30 am at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla, followed by the placing of wreaths at 6:35 am at the graves near the Central Mosque, the Jagannath Hall memorial, and other memorials in residential areas under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor.

Later, wreaths will be placed at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial and the Rayerbazar Killing Ground.

A discussion will be held at 11:15 am at the TSC auditorium with the Vice-Chancellor in the chair.

After Asr prayers, special doa will be offered at the DU central mosque Masjidul Jamia, hall mosques and other places of worship seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyred intellectuals.

The Victory Day programmes include hoisting the national flag atop the Vice-Chancellor’s residence and all major university buildings at 6:20 am on December 16.

A gathering will be held at 6:30 am at Smriti Chirantan Chattar near the VC residence, after which the Vice-Chancellor will lead teachers, students, officers and employees to place wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar.

A cultural programme will be held at 5:45 pm at the TSC auditorium, jointly organized by the Departments of Music, Dance, and Theatre and Performance Studies.

Special doa will be offered after Asr prayers at the central mosque, various hall mosques and residential area mosques for the salvation of the martyrs’ souls and for the country’s peace, prosperity and development. 

Prayer sessions will also be held in other places of worship on campus.
The key installations including the Arts Building, Curzon Hall, TSC and Smriti Chirantan will be illuminated on  December 15 and 16 respectively.

Residential halls will organize exhibitions of photographs, films and documentaries on the martyred intellectuals and the Liberation War.
