SANGSAD BHABAN, Mar 2, 2024 (BSS) –Chief Whip of the Opposition in Parliament Mujibul Huq Chunnu today urged the government to take strict action against those responsible for the deadly Bailey Road fire  that claimed 46 lives.
 
“The government have to take necessary action against those responsible for the deadly blaze in the city as the fire broke out at 9:45 pm Thursday night at a six-storey building on Bailey Road,” he said while speaking under the point of order of the rules of procedure in the Jatiya Sangsad here with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
 
Huq said the building had no permission of operating restaurant business but the related government agencies including RAJUK, Fire Service and Civil Defense, Department of Environment and City Corporation didn’t carry out supervision regarding the multipurpose use of the commercial building.
 
The city has been witnessing such tragic fire incident one after another due to negligence of the concerned government agencies resulting in deaths of huge innocent people which is not acceptable, said Mujibul Huq lawmaker of Kishorganj-3.
At least 46 people, including 26 women and three children, were killed and 22 critically injured in the fire that broke out at the seven-storey Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall on Bailey Road.
 
Of the 39 victims identified, names of 25 victims have so far been disclosed.
 
Currently, 10 people are undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and two at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
