Homeopathic Medical Education Bill passed in JS

SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 2, 2023 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Homeopathic Medical Education Bill, 2023 was passed today in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) aiming to bring homeopathic medicine system in order.

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain on behalf of Health Minister Zahid Maleque moved the bill which was passed by voice votes in the house with Deputy Speaker Shamsul Huq Tuku in the chair.

Currently, there is a homeopathic board in the country and it would be replaced by a council. The proposed new act also will repeal Bangladesh Homoeopathic Practitioners Ordinance, 1983.

As per the bill the council shall be governed by a 17-member Board of Directors. This council will supervise the homeopathy treatment, services and medicines.

The bill said that the council will register the homeopathy physicians and maintain a registry book in this regard and it would be updated time to time.

A-10 member executive council which will be formed headed by chairman under the act will also control the homeopathic education standard.

As the country's 40 percent people depend on homeopathic treatment, so the act needs to be specified by an accreditation council for recognition of the homeopathic physicians, said opposition lawmaker Fakhrul Imam of Mymensingh-8.

"We want to endorse the act as the homeopathic medicine is very cheaper for the people", said another opposition lawmaker Kazi Feroz Rashid of Dhaka-6.

Even the demand for seeking public review raised by the opposition lawmakers and their amendments also were rejected by voice votes.
