SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 31, 2023 (BSS) - Districts (Extension to the Chittagong
Hill tracts) Bill 2023 was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad today aiming to
maintain peace and equal development in three districts of the Hill Tracts.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Muzammel Huq moved the bill which was
unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in
the chair.

Piloting the bill, the minister said the proposed bill will replace the
Districts (Extension to the Chittagong Hill-Tracts) Ordinance,1984.

Under the proposed act, the Chittagong Hill Tracts will be identified as
three independent districts like Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban hill
districts.

Opposition lawmakers Kazi Feroz Rashid,Fakhrul Imam,Pir Fazlur Rahman,Shamim
Haider Patwary,Hafiz Uddin Ahamed and Rawshan Ara Mannan also participated in
the process of passing the bill.
