Maritime ports advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no. 3

DHAKA, Aug 8, 2023 (BSS) – Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no. three as strong monsoon deep convection is continuing over North Bay, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).    

Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining areas of the country.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, said the BMD.        

In a latest weather forecast, BMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over the country.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over the country with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country,” said BMD in the forecast valid for the next 24 hours.

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, said the forecast begins from 9am today.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across Northern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends up to the North Bay.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over the North Bay.

Country's maximum temperature on Monday was recorded 32.7 degree Celsius at Tetulia and today's minimum temperature 24.0 degree Celsius was jointly recorded at Tangail and Kutubdia.

Country's maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am today was recorded 268 millimeters(mm) at Bandarban.

The sun sets at 06.38 pm today and rises at 05.31 am tomorrow in the capital.
