US diplomat Uzra Zeya discusses regional stability with India

NEW DELHI, July 10, 2023 (BSS) - The visiting US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya today discussed regional stability and civilian security issues when she met Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra here.

"A pleasure to meet again with Foreign Secretary @Amb VMKwatra. Grateful for the vital #USIndia partnership and shared efforts to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific, regional stability and civilian security," Zeya tweeted following the meeting.

Zeya, the US senior diplomat later held a meeting with Secretary (West) of Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Sanjay Verma when she discussed US-India partnership in addressing global and regional issues and cooperation between the two countries.

"Fruitful convoy reconnecting w/Secretary (West)@Sanjay VermanlFS during my visit to New Delhi. Thanks for your continued partnership addressing global & regional challenges. U.S.-India cooperation is essential to our most vital priorities and a more peaceful and prosperous world," she tweeted.

Apart from holding meetings with the Indian top diplomats, the US Under Secretary also interacted with civil society group US-India Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Council members leading on efforts to build a more inclusive.

"Our missions integrate DEIA in our foreign policy and programs....," Zeya said in a separate tweet as the meeting is over.

The US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights and U.S. Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Uzra Zeya arrived here on Sunday on her first leg of six-day official visit to India and Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, the Under Secretary will meet with senior officials of the government, according to a statement issued by US state department prior to her India visit.
