SHERPUR, May 7, 2023 (BSS) - The government today started Boro paddy procurement drive and rice collection in the district as Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder inaugurated the programme virtually across the country.

Deputy Commissioner Sahela Akter, Additional Deputy Commissioner Muktadirul Ahmed, Police Super Md Kamruzzaman, Deputy Director of Agriculture Dr Sukalpa Das and Upazila Food Controller Mizanur Rahman were present at a function in the Conference Room of the Deputy Commissioner.

District Food Controller Officer SM Tahsinul Haque said the Govt has set a target to procure 33,188 metric tons of Boro paddy and rice in the district this season.

The procurement price of Boro paddy has been fixed at Taka 30 per kg and boiled rice at Taka 44 per kg.

The government will procure 24,703 metric tons of boiled rice in the district while 8485 metric tons of paddy will be procured directly from the farmers.

Rice will be collected from 98 rice mills in the district. The drive will be continued till August 31.
