Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad's 88th birth anniversary tomorrow

NARAIL, Feb 25, 2023 (BSS)- The 88th birth anniversary of Bir Shrestha Nur
Mohammad Sheikh will be observed at Nur Mohammad Nagar under Chandibarpur
union in Narail sadar upazila here tomorrow.
 
Nur Mohammad Nagar, earlier known as Mahiskhola where Bir Shrestha Nur
Mohammad Sheikh was born, was named after him in his honour, sources said.

The Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust and district administration have
taken elaborate porogrammes to mark the day.

On the occasion, the programmes will be started with the recitation from the
Holy Quran at 8 am. After that, a guard of honour will be held at Nur
Mohammad Nagar at 10 am and prayers will be offered at the Nur Mohammad
Sheikh Memorial Museum and Library auditorium at 10:30 am on the day seeking
eternal peace of the great Hero's departed soul.

People will also visit his grave at Kashipur of Sharsha in Jashore and
offering prayers there tomorrow.

Narail Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Habibur Rahman, who is also the President
of the Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust, is expected to attend the
programme as the chief guest while Trust's Member Secretary and Chandibarpur
UP Chairman Azizur Rahman Bhuyan will preside over the function.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sadira Khatun, Chief Executive Officer of Zila
Parishad Dr. Lutfer Rahman, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sadia Islam,
District Awami League President Advocate Subash Chandra Bose, its Secretary
and Sadar Upazila Chairman Nizam Uddin Khan Nilu, Trustee members heroic
freedom fighter Advocate SA Matin, Golam Mortuza Swapon will be present as
special guests.

Nur Mohammad was born on February 26, 1936 at Mahiskhola village under
Chandibarpur union in Narail sadar upazila. Later, he joined the then East
Pakistan Rifles (EPR), now known as Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on March
14, 1959.

Nur Mohammad Sheikh was adorned with the highest military award for
sacrificing his life by taking part in war at Goalhati and Chuitpur in
Jashore against the Pakistani occupation forces on September 5 of 1971.
