DHAKA, Jan 11, 2023 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a Peruvian national to life term imprisonment in a case lodged against him under the Narcotics Control Act.

Judge Fatema Ferdous of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-5 handed down the verdict in presence of the convict Jaime B Gomez, a citizen of Peru, state representative Rijaur Rahman Rumel said.

The court also acquitted two others accused of the case- Md Abdus Salam and Salah Uddin, as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.

According to the case, Gomez was arrested with 2,300 grams of cocaine from Shahjalal International Airport on January 9, 2015. 

Police pressed charge sheets against the three on December 15 of the same year. Charges against them were framed on April 7, 2016.
