People aged 60 yrs and above to get 4th Covid-19 vaccine dose: Maleque

DHAKA, Dec 1, 2022 (BSS) - Health Minister Zahid Maleque today said people aged 60 years and above will receive the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

"We have adequate amount of vaccines in our stock... the technical committee has also recommended for administering the fourth dose of the vaccine," he said while addressing a function marking the World AIDS Day 2022, the health ministry sources said.

The government has already launched a mass Covid vaccination campaign across the country from December 1 to 7 (this year) to inoculate 90 lakh people, aged 12 years and above, with the second and booster doses of Covid-19 vaccines, Directorate General of Health Services sources said.

The health minister said Bangladesh has become a role model for controlling coronavirus as the country successfully handled three waves of the deadly virus.
 "When almost the entire world was struggling to combat the lethal virus... we have taken multiple measures under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to protect lives of the people from the disease," he added.

 The health minister said Bangladesh secured fifth position in the world for its success in combating highly contagious virus while the country attained top position among the South Asian countries.

Maleque said, "Bangladesh has so far inoculated nearly 30 crore doses of vaccines."
