Two fugitive militants to be nabbed soon: DB chief Harun

DHAKA, Nov 21, 2022 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid today said that the law enforcers will nab the two death row militants, who escaped from the premises of a Dhaka court, soon.

"Snatchers of the death row convicts are under the surveillance of the law enforcers," said Harun, also, additional commissioner of Dhaka metropolitan Police (DMP).

Addressing a press briefing at the DMP media centre in the city, he said that the militants who escaped from the court premises will be arrested and brought under the law soon after reviewing the CCTV footage.

Harun said a red alert was also issued across the country to stop them from crossing borders, adding, "After reviewing the CCTV footage, the mastermind of this incident Major (dismissed) Zia and others associates will be arrested soon."

He said all the absconding militants and accomplices of the snatching are under the surveillance of the law enforcement agencies.

"They will also be arrested," the DB chief said.

"Immediately after the militants fled, senior officials of the DB, City and Thana police visited the scene. Check posts at different points of the capital were installed and drives were also conducted to arrest the militants and their associates," he said.

A case was lodged in connection with the snatching of the accused and 20 people, including unknown others, were accused in the case. Earlier, the court granted a 10-day remand for interrogation of 10 people, including two militants who escaped.

"Everything is under investigation," Harun said.

Replying to a question, he said that the DMP commissioner already suspended five policemen due to negligence of duty.

Harun said that patrolling was increased in the court area and adequate police protection was deployed to bring in and out of terrorists.
