Govt mulls to use 40pc renewable energy by 2041: Hasan

 DHAKA, Nov 9, 2022 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the government has a plan to use 40 percent renewable energy of the country's total energy by 2041.
 
"International technical and financial supports are needed to implement the ambitious plan," he told a session titled 'Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Energy Sector: In the Perspective of the Global Energy" organised by the Power Division at Bangladesh Pavilion at the ongoing COP-27 conference at Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt.
 
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Waseqa Ayesha Khan, MP, director general of International Alliance Dr Ajay Mathur and power expert Martin Liambai, among others, addressed the session with director general of power cell of the Power Division Engineer Mohammad Hossain in the chair.
 
Hasan also addressed another session on "Launch of Natural Disaster Damage Research Project: Building Compensation Capacity in the South Globe".
 
Speaking on the occasion, he said identifying the level of damage caused by natural disasters and the specific methods of adaptation and mitigation to meet it are yet to be determined. 

However, the issue is being discussed seriously in this year's climate conference, which is a matter of hope, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
 
Environmentalists Dr Nizam R Khan, Dr Vim Adhikari and Nepalese prime minister's advisor on environment Madhab Karki, among others, addressed the session.
