Bapex finds 20 mmcf gas at Tobgi-1 exploratory well in Bhola

DHAKA, Nov 3, 2020 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said that the state-run Bapex found gas at Tobgi-1 exploratory well in Bhola.

"We hope, the country will get 20 million cubic feet (mmcf) gas per day from 'Tobgi-1' well and the estimated reserved is 239 billion cubic feet (Bcf) in the well," he said in a briefing at his ministry's conference room.

He said ‘completion and installation of Christmas Tree’ of the well will be wrapped up for making the well ready for commercial gas production by November 7.

Considering the gas reserve in Tobgi-1 well, the estimated price of gas at the present market level is about Tk 8059.08 crore, which is many times higher than the price of LNG imports, the state minister said.

He said that with an average daily gas production of 20 mmcf from the newly well, the reserve will be available for about 30-31 year, adding, "This is definitely good news amid existing crisis created in the global market due to Ukraine- Russia war."

Stating that the government has been working to find sources of domestic energy, Nasrul also said, "Petrobangla has taken plans to drill a total of 46 exploration, development and work over wells during the 2022-2025 period."

“Two more wells (Elisha-1 and Bhola North-2) will be completed in phases by next June 2023. And after the implementation of the projects, around 46 to 55 million cubic feet of gas will be available from these three wells," Nasrul said.

Petrobangla Chairman Nazmul Ahsan and BAPEX Managing Director Mohammad Ali were also present at the briefing, among others.
