Jail killing the worst chapter in Bangladesh history: Atiqul

DHAKA, Nov 3, 2022 (BSS) - Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md Atiqul Islam today cited the jail killing conspiracy as one of the atrocious chapters in the history of Bangladesh.

"They (the four leaders) led the nation standing in the front-line during the Great War of Liberation. The same persons were brutally killed after being confined in a highly guarded place by the conspirators," Atiqul said while talking to newsmen, after paying homage to the four National leaders in city's Banani graveyard, said a release.

"The plot to take Bangladesh towards an unwanted journey took its final form, by this disreputable incident," he added.

The DNCC Mayor strongly demanded the capital punishment of the murderers and confiscation of their movable and immovable property, added the release.

Earlier, the Mayor paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the Jail Killing incident by placing floral wreaths at their graves. He also offered a special dua and took part in Fatiha recitation.

On November 3 in 1975, four national leaders and heroes of the country's Liberation War -- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman-- were assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail.

The four leaders played a key role in forming the Mujibnagar government in exile, that led the Liberation War in 1971, with Syed Nazrul Islam as the acting president, Tajuddin Ahmad as the prime minister, Mansur Ali as the finance minister and AHM Qamruzzaman as the home, relief and rehabilitation minister.
