DHAKA, Sept 27, 2022 (BSS) - Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today asked the BNP leaders to leave its 'weird thoughts' of the caretaker government.

He made the call while speaking at a conference of the AL units of Ward No. 40, 45 and 46 of Gendaria held on Fazlul Haque Mahila College ground here this afternoon.

Quader asked BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to skip the demand of the caretaker government from his head.

There would be no caretaker government but the next general polls will held using electronic voting machines (EVMs) to prevent vote rigging, he said.

The AL general secretary said the BNP is afraid of EVM use in polls as it would not able to seize voting centres, if the EVMs are used.

Hoping that the country's people will stay beside the pro-liberation forces in the next national elections, he said it will be proved in the next elections whether this country would remain under control of Pakistan supporters or corrupt people or in the hands of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina.

The people will prove it by voting, he added.

Issuing a warning to Mirza Fakhrul, Quader asked him not to play with fire. "If you want to play with fire, it will not be good. People will respond accordingly. People don't want terrorism. People want peace. The Awami League also wants to give the people peace and relief".

Chaired by Gendaria Thana AL president Shahid Ullah Minu, the conference was addressed, among others, by AL organising secretary Mirza Azam, relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, and Dhaka South City AL president Abu Ahmed Mannafi and its general secretary Humayun Kabir.
