No alternative to AL govt in country: Azad

DHAKA, March 20, 2022 (BSS) – Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad today said there is no alternative to Awami League (AL) for running the country, otherwise the anti-liberation forces will ravage the country's all significant achievements.

"There is no alternative to Awami League to run the country ... otherwise the anti-liberation forces would destroy all the achievements, including the Multipurpose Padma Bridge, which so far have been gained under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he said.

The BSS chief said this while presiding over a weeklong photography exhibition and discussion meeting marking 102nd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at BSS conference room here.

"If Awami League is no longer in power, the anti-liberation forces will come to power and I'm sure that the pro-Pakistani quarters will first take opportunity to damage Padma Bridge, a dream mega establishment of the country," the eminent journalist told the discussion where dozens of journalists and employees attended.

After coming to power in 2001, the anti-liberation forces led by BNP-Jammat had killed several thousands of people and set fire on a huge number of houses, he said, adding, "Even, the nightmare will return if BNP-Jammat comes to power again."

After the separation of Pakistan and India, Abul Kalam Azad said Indian National Congress which led independence of India in 1947, had ruled the country for at least 54 years and then Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, but they do not belong to anti-Indian ideology.

"We never want that the anti-liberation forces, which have no belief in the spirit and ideals of Liberation War of the country, should again come to power and take the country back to Pakistani ideology," said BSS chief.

Managing Editor Anisur Rahman, Chief News Editor Samir Kanti Barua, City Editor and member of the BSS Board of Directors Madhusudan Mondal, Deputy Chief Reporter (Bangla) Kanai Chakraborty, BSS's sports chief Shawpan Basu, News Editor Noor-e-Jannat Sima, senior reporters Khairuzzaman Kamal,  Ataur Rahman and Mohammad Abu Sayeed, Coordinator of National Desk Tanvir Aladin Kazi, Kabir Ahmed Khan and BSS Employees Union President Mostaque Ahammed, among others, took part in the discussion moderated by Deputy Chief Reporter Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo.

Criticizing the role of BNP, the veteran journalist said Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina and her party have successfully faced the global Covid-19 pandemic with arrangement of 'hundred percent' inoculation of the people but BNP has misled propaganda at the very beginning of vaccination.

Even a number of ruling party leaders and workers who stood by the people died of lethal virus, said Azad, adding that the BNP men were totally abstained from such massive welfare activities.

Referring to the Unfinished Memoirs of Bangabandhu, the former press secretary to the Prime Minister, said Bangabandhu had enormous love for the people and he thought for the wellbeing of teeming people, leaving aside the interest of his personal and family.

He also pointed out the political philosophy of the great leader
Bangabandhu and reasons of founding Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League(BAKSAL) following the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution of Bangladesh on February 24 in 1975.

Speaking about the welfare of the journalists, Abul Kalam Azad said journalist-friendly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had also implemented a lot of programmes for the welfare of the journalist community, but such generosity to the media people should be properly highlighted.
