Bangladesh records highest COVID-19 infection rate in a single day

  DHAKA, Jan 28, 2022 (BSS) - Bangladesh today posted the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in a single day since the pandemic began on March 8, 2020 as it reported 33.37 percent positive cases from 46,268 samples test in the past 24 hours.
 
  "The country registered its highest-ever daily spike in coronavirus infection rate with 33.37 percent in the past 24 hours....earlier, the highest infection rate in Bangladesh was 32.55 on July 24, 2021," Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement.
 
   In the past 24 hours, the country reported 15,440 Covid-19 cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 20 lives, it added.
 
   In the past 24 hours, the combined figure of coronavirus in Dhaka city and upazilas of the district is 8,113 while three Covid-19 deaths were reported during the period.
 
   The official tally showed that the virus killed 28,308 people and infected 17,62,771 so far, the statement added.
 
   The recovery count rose to 15,62,369 after another 1,326 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.
 
   From the beginning of the pandemic, 88.63 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the infected people while 1.61 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.
 
   The DGHS said among the total 28,308 fatalities, 12,382 occurred in Dhaka division, 5,740 in Chattogram, 2,075 in Rajshahi, 3,630 in Khulna, 958 in Barishal, 1,286 in Sylhet, 1,378 in Rangpur and 859 in Mymensingh divisions.
