Metrorail’s Shahbagh, Karwan Bazar stations to open Sunday

DHAKA, Dec 28, 2023 (BSS) - Shahbagh and Karwan Bazar stations of MRT Line-6 will be going for operation on Sunday and the time of the rail service from Uttara to Motijheel will be extended up to night from March next.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL)  managing director MAN Siddique told this at a press conference at his Eskaton office here today.

Currently, the metro rail service on Uttara to Agargaon section is available from 7.30am to 8.30 and from 7.30am to 11.30am on Uttara-Motijheel route.

Two metro trains, one at 7.10 and other at 7.20am are running from Uttara North station to Motijheel for students and office goers. Only MRT Pass and Rapid Pass holders can travel by the two trains.

On November 4, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the second phase of the metro rail's Agargaon to Motijheel part with stopover in three stations-Farmgate, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel.

Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani stations went into operation from December 13 last.
Siddique said currently 1.30 lakh to 1.50 lakh people are using the metro rail service daily, which is much higher than the estimation.

DMTCL managing director said they sent a letter to DMP to check flying of lanterns within one kilometer radius of metro line routes at the time of Gregorian New Year celebration causing disruption metro rail services.

Country’s first metro rail service was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on December 28, 2022 and went for commercial operation on the next day.
