Online system will make polls process transparent, fair: CEC

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2023 (BSS) - Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal today said the introduction of online system will ensure electoral transparency and make the process easy and fair.

He said this while inaugurating the 'Online Nomination Submission System (ONSS)' and 'Smart Election Management App' at a function at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area.

"The app which has been opened today will help much to ensure electoral transparency. So, we should learn how to use the system," the CEC said.

Noting that carrying out showdown during submission of nomination paper has been transformed into a culture in the country, which sometimes breaches the electoral code of conduct, Awal said, "The online submission of nomination paper will help reduce such anomaly and make the electoral process easy and fair."

Speaking about online voting, he said this system is yet to be launched anywhere in the world, but neighboring India is working to introduce the system so that people can cast their votes online through mobile phones staying home.

"If they (India) become successful, we could launch the system too. But I could not say about the time when the system can be launched," the CEC added.
Election commissioners Brigadier General (Retd) Md Ahsan Habib Khan, Rashida Sultana, Md Alamgir and Md Anisur Rahman, and Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam were present at the event.
