We will see if US visa policy is blind or realistic: Quader

DHAKA, June 17, 2023 (BSS) - Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said now it is a matter to see how the new US visa police will act after BNP's threat to foil the polls.

"The US said the new visa policy will be applied to those who will create obstruction in holding a free and fair election. We will see whether the policy will be blind, dumb or it will be realistic," he said.

Quader said these while replying to reporters after visiting 4.5 kilometers of BRT Project's construction work at Tongi in Gazipur.

"They (US) can make visa policy. It doesn't matter to us. We also may have visa policy. We also can make policy. Wait and see," he said.

The minister said whenever anyone talks about corruption and misrule, he or she must utter the name of BNP.

Talks of corruption and misrule don't suit BNP as they commit those, he said.

About BNP's comments that AL will have to escape and it cannot stay in power, the AL general secretary said: "We have been hearing such talks for the last 14 years. BNP could not make a single visible movement for the release of their leader (Khaleda Zia)."

He said there is no scope for any fugitive leader from abroad to make movement by engaging people giving orders through remote control system.

BNP cannot prove them in waging movement in the true sense of the term, he mentioned.

About the trial of killers of slain journalist Golam Rabbani in Jamalpur, Quader said political identity will not influence the trial.

Legal actions will be taken against those who will be found involved in the killing, he said.

The road transport and bridges minister said before Eid-ul-Azha, the 4.5-kilometer elevated part of BRT Project from House Building to Cherag Ali College Gate will be opened to traffics.

He said 91 percent works of BRT Project have been completed while 95pc works of elevated part from House Building to Cherag Ali College Gate have ended.

Works of the entire project is likely to end by September-October, he said.

More 100 bridges across the country will be inaugurated soon, he said.

The minister said no cattle market will be allowed in streets this time to make the Eid journey of the holidaymakers smoother.

There will be cattle markets in specific places as per rules, he said.

Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary A B M Amin Ullah Nuri, Bridges Division Secretary Md. Monjur Hossain and concerned officials of the project were present, among others.

Earlier, Obaidul Quader visited the project area.
