President for working together to build non-communal Bangladesh

DHAKA, Dec 25, 2022 (BSS) - President M Abdul Hamid today asked everyone, irrespective of religions and caste, to work together in building a non-communal Bangladesh, envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"Communal harmony is the Bengalees eternal tradition and universally recognized . . . This tradition should be continued collectively," the President said this while exchanging greetings with Christian community leaders on the occasion of Christmas Day at the Gallery Hall of Bangabhaban here this evening.

The Head of the State urged everyone to be vigilant so that no individual or quarter can break this bond of communal harmony anyway.

Referring to Jesus Christ as the guide of the right path of mankind, Hamid said, in return for many sacrifices, he preached the glory of God and His message of Christianity.

Instead of worldly happiness, the President said Jesus Christ emphasized the attainment of eternal happiness through sacrifice, temperance and charity.

He also taught peaceful coexistence among people including love, service, forgiveness and justice, the President added.

Noting that Bangladesh is a town of peace and prosperity, the President said behind this achievement is the relentless work and continuous efforts of all people, irrespective of religion and caste.

"The positive contribution of communal harmony to our development and progress is undeniable," he noted.

The bond of friendship existing between all will deepen in days to come, Abdul Hamid hoped.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan, MP, Dhaka Archbishop Bejoy Nicephorus D'Cruz, President of Bangladesh Christian Association Nirmal Rosario and other community dignitaries and religious leaders attended the reception.
